Grab an early breakfast this morning before heading out onto the water.
The Buzz Coffee House which is near Nanaimo Dive Outfitters, and is a great place for coffee and a bite to eat.
Gabriel’s Cafe – If you are in the downtown area this is a great place for breakfast. It’s also a short distance from Sundown Diving and the Harbour for your ocean experience!
Simon Holt – If located in the North end of Nanaimo, definitely give this place a try.
Snorkeling with Seals is a great way to spend the morning. These tours are your chance to get up close and personal with our local Harbour Seals at Snake Island. Sundown Snorkeling or Nanaimo Dive Outfitters are going to be your go to companies for this activity.
Today will be a later lunch since Snorkeling with the seals will go until about 2PM. It will be a good idea to stay close to downtown for lunch since you will be back onto the water in the afternoon.
Asteras Greek Taverna – Is your classic Greek tavern in the heart of the Old City Quarters.
Mon Petit Choux – This is a little corner of Paris right in down town Nanaimo.
Starting in the fall of 2016, the Hover Craft reaching up to 35 km/hour will take you on a thrill ride around Nanaimo Harbour. Up to 5 passengers at a time can ride on a cushion of air and take in the sights and sounds of the beautiful harbour in a unique mode of transport.
A long day on the water means it’s time to relax, enjoy a refreshing drink and delicious meal. Since you will be down by the water, there are a few great places to grab a bite to eat.
Carlos O’Bryan’s Neighborhood Pub – Irish-themed pub with a great waterfront patio.
Beefeaters Chop House and Grill – A fresh perspective on Mediterranean cooking.
Both of these are ocean side at the Marina, making it a great place to watch the boats come and go before heading back out onto the water for a paddle.
The sun sets with magnificent skies and calm waters and getting onto the harbour is a wonderful way to fully experience it. Book a lesson, a tour or rent a paddleboard/Kayak/Stand up Pedal Board from Alberni Outpost’s Adventure Centre. Navigate the waters yourself, watch the ferries come in, find a private beach on Newcastle Island and watch as the sunset dips below the ocean.
Be sure to get in a good breakfast this morning as it will be a long day out on the water. Here are a few suggestions for you:
The Bee’s Knees Community Café – Located in Downtown Nanaimo.

What better way to experience true west coast living than to get out on the water with a Guided Fishing & Crabbing Charter with Invictus Charters! Captain Gerry will be able to show you some of Vancouver Island’s best fishing. Be sure to come fully prepared, which means attaining a Tidal Fishing License with a Salmon Stamp. This is a minimum 4 hour excursion, but it is possible to spend as much time as it takes to catch that “Big One” you’ve always been waiting for. Also a minimum time of 5 hours is required if you are wishing to drop the crab traps.
Be sure to pack your lunch today as you will be eating at sea. There are several great places to get a lunch to go downtown before meeting the Tour Guide:
Thrifty Foods located at Port Place Mall – might be one option, particularly if you are planning on doing a picnic for both lunch and dinner.
McLean’s Specialty Foods – located in the Old City Quarter.
Dish – is in central Nanaimo and is a great place to grab a healthy lunch to go.
Still out on the water catching fish and crabs all the while having fun!
If you didn’t catch tonight’s dinner, have no fear there are some great restaurants that will be close to the downtown area for you to check out. But if you did catch something and wish to cook it up tonight, head over to Newcastle Island Provincial Marine Park, where there are day use fire pits and picnic tables. If you have planned ahead and brought food to accompany your meal you can ask the Captain from Invictus Charters to drop you off on the island and just take the ferry back, or you can take the ferry from Maffeo Sutton Park which leaves every hour. If you want to eat elsewhere here are a few suggestions for you:
Smokin’ Georges BBQ – This is your go to BBQ spot in North Nanaimo
Aladdin’s Café – Aladdin’s is going to light your Mediterranean taste buds on fire right
Huong Lan Restaurant – Nestled in central Nanaimo, this is a local favourite for Vietnamese cuisine.
Book a catamaran tour with Captain Hans with Vancouver Island Catamaran Sailing. Tours from 1-4 hours are available and tours can be customized depending on what you would like to see. We suggest cruising around Newcastle Island keeping a close eye on shore to see if you can spot the White Raccoon family! He’ll even throw down a crab trap if you ask. Happy Sailing!
