Get to Gabe Tour

Two full days on the “Isle of the Arts”, Gabriola Island.

These two days could be made into an overnight trip to Gabriola Island or two day trips from Nanaimo! If walking over, please refer to the Gertie Bus schedule or consider Nanaimo Car Share! The Gabriola Chamber lists a few other ideas on how to get around. For a detailed map click HERE. If you would like to create your own custom itinerary, bringing your own car or bicycle may work best. However you decide to explore Gabriola, be sure to check the BC ferry schedule first.

 

BREAKFAST

After ferrying over, make your way to the village and appreciate the local cafes and restaurants.

 

Mad Rona’s Coffee Bar – you’ll absolutely love this place, it’s open and beautiful with a great selection of breakfast sandwiches!

Robert’s Place – this well-loved gathering place offers seriously satisfying food.

 

ACTIVITY

You have to peruse the Saturday Farmers Market (SATURDAYS May – October only) and Village Core. There are some amazing artists, tie dye creations, baking and fresh produce.

 

Pick up a Gabriola brochure and a list of the artists at the Visitor Centre located near the farmers market.

 

Today is a day for a cruise around the island stopping in at some beautiful parks and artists along the way! You must see Malaspina Galleries, natural carved sandstone rock formations. A short drive further you’ll find twin beaches, we suggest taking a walk along there too! Along your route, be sure to pull into the artists with their yellow flags out letting you know they are open. For a list of other walks and beaches click here.

 

LUNCH

After taking in the spectacular sites, take a break and enjoy these fine establishments.

 

Woodfire Restaurant – If you are looking for a mouth-watering menu of gourmet woodfire pizza, and fine Italian pastas this place nails it! The Kitchen – There is pride in the food, fun in the drinks and a classy island vibe in the air.

 

ACTIVITY

Golf a round at Gabriola Golf & Country Club or perhaps just stop to hit some balls at the driving range. If golf isn’t your thing, you can always continue art hopping!

 

DINNER

Revel in the views from the Surf Lodge or be remarkably satisfied by Robert’s Place.

Surf Lodge – The sunset lounge and dining room provide stellar views in a historic and beautiful setting.

Book a Kayak tour with Silva Bay Kayak Adventures or reserve your rental.

Try something new on the South end of the island.

 

Silva Bay Restaurant & Pub – Enjoy great pub food while watching the boats come and go.  

 

ACTIVITY

Rent a scooter or mountain bike from Page’s Resort & Marina and go check out some other great parks and beaches such as Drumbeg Provincial Park and Brickyard Beach.

Once you return from Gabriola head out to a popular 2.5 km trail at Jack Point & Biggs Park to take in the sunset, wildlife viewing and excellent views of downtown Nanaimo and Mt. Benson overtop.
